Nitrate anion templated assembly of a [2]rotaxane for selective nitrate recognition in aqueous solvent mixtures.

The first nitrate anion templated assembly of an interlocked molecular architecture is demonstrated through the preparation of a [2]rotaxane. Removal of the discrete nitrate anion template from the [2]rotaxane reveals an interlocked host system capable of strong and selective recognition of nitrate, in aqueous-organic solvent mixtures, over a range of more basic mono-charged oxoanions.

A transmembrane anion transporter selective for nitrate over chloride.

The C3-symmetric triamide selectively transports NO3- anions across lipid vesicles: this H+-NO3- co-transporter alters the pH inside of liposomes experiencing a NO3-/Cl- gradient.

Hydration dynamics of aqueous nitrate.

Aqueous nitrate, NO3(-)(aq), was studied by 2D-IR, UV-IR, and UV-UV time-resolved spectroscopies in combination with molecular dynamics (MD) simulations with the purpose of determining the hydration dynamics around the anion. In water, the D3h symmetry of NO3(-) is broken, and the degeneracy of the asymmetric-stretch modes is lifted. This provides a very sensitive probe of the ion-water interac...

A combined QM/MM molecular dynamics simulations study of nitrate anion (NO3-) in aqueous solution.

The structural and dynamical properties of NO3- in dilute aqueous solution have been investigated by means of two combined quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM) molecular dynamics simulations, namely HF/MM and B3LYP/MM, in which the ion and its surrounding water molecules were treated at HF and B3LYP levels of accuracy, respectively, using the DZV+ basis set. On the basis of both HF and...

Anion templated assembly of mechanically interlocked structures.

This tutorial review describes the evolution of the field of chemical templation, in particular, emphasising the impact its application has made to the synthesis of mechanically interlocked structures. Recent advances in the use of negatively charged template species for the synthesis of interlocked structures are detailed, with the main focus of this review describing the development of a gene...
